Prior to joining the Dane team, Julia spent the past 14 years working as an attorney specializing in the area of affordable housing.  During that time, Julia closed a diverse portfolio of complex projects, including special needs housing developed by non- profit developers, tax-exempt bond/credit projects, HUD projects including 202’s and 811’s, HOPE VI projects, and a range of preservation deals.   Julia has represented a multitude of large tax credit investors and closed affordable housing projects throughout the United States, with a particular focus on the Northeast and New York City.

Julia has been a speaker at a number of seminars and conferences on a range of topics relating to the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, including Tax Credits 101, Sophisticated Tax Credit Investing, IRP Decoupling, and protecting the tax-exempt status of non-profit developers.

Most recently Julia was Acting Chief Legal Officer for the New York Equity Fund (NYEF) and New York City LISC.   In that role, Julia oversaw all closings for NYEF as well as providing legal counsel and guidance on a variety of matters arising with NYEF’s large portfolio.

Prior to NYC LISC, Julia spent a number of years working in the New York City and Washington DC offices of Nixon Peabody LLP, representing Low-Income Housing Tax Credit syndicators and working on complex tax-exempt bond and Low Income Housing Tax credit deals nationwide.

Prior to working at Nixon Peabody, Julia served as an assistant general counsel for the National Equity Fund focusing on closing low-income housing transactions with non-profit developers, including Special Needs projects, throughout the Northeast.

Julia began her legal career at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) in Washington D.C. where she worked in the Office of General Counsel. Subsequently, Julia worked in HUD’s New York Office.

Julia earned her law degree with high honors from the University of Buffalo School of Law and her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Julia serves as the Vice President of Programs for the New York based organization Women in Housing and Finance, she is a member of the NYC Bar Association’s Committee on Housing and Urban Development and the American Bar Association’s Forum on Affordable Housing.
